Let's Discuss: Cameras

Canon SX40 HS, $379, from here
Though I do love featuring other bloggers' photographs, I have grown tired of being unable to produce quality images myself. Yes, I do have a digital camera that can simply take pictures. However, this does not meet the expectations I have for my blog. This is not to say that I believe a good camera makes a good photographer. In addition, this does not also imply that I even want to become a brilliant photographer. The primary goal of this blog has always been to convey my experiences to my readers in the clearest and most artistic way possible (focusing mainly upon the development of my writing abilities). However, in doing so, I would like to also improve how this information is presented. Because of all this, I have decided to purchase a new camera. This is my only requirement: I am willing to spend at most $400 (give or take $25-$50 because I hope this would include a memory card and other necessary accessories - please excuse the oxymoron). I have begun the search already myself. My favorite find is displayed above. I would greatly appreciate your feedback, especially some suggestions, and I hope to announce my decision Friday.

  1. Just came across your blog and I love it, especially the bake week posts.

I agree with you that a good camera makes a good photographer. A friend of mine has this compact sony that does amazing SLR quality images. I think it was around $300 but I don't remember the model number so I guess that doesn't help lol. I have a Nikon d90 and I love it, not sure if it fits in the $400 criteria but it is extremely durable. My cousin who has the same camera left it out one night in the rain, next morning after drying the camera off it was working like brand new.

Here's my blog if you're interested. Check out the photos of my baking endeavors, all taken via Nikon D90 on automode (because I'm lazy).
